About SEMS
Arizona State University Student Emergency Medical Services (SEMS) is a group of students at ASU who are trained and certified as Emergency Medical Technician - Basics. We work with Campus Health Service, the Tempe Fire Department, the ASU Police Department, PMT Ambulance, and countless other organizations to bring the best possible service to those who enter the Tempe campus.
The EMTs of SEMS are Nationally Registered EMT-Bs, and are all certified with the State of Arizona - Department of Health Services. Our training is equivalent to that of EMTs on fire engines and ambulances.
SEMS was conceived in February 2008, and had its first standby event in February of 2009. Although we currently only operate on standby for special events, we are eagerly looking forward to the implementation of our 911 response system.

Sean McMullen is a second year nursing major at Arizona State University. Currently, he also serves on the Board of Directors for the Programming and Activities Board, works as a Facilities Liaison for the University Towers Hall Council, and volunteers for the City of Phoenix Fire Department as a Crisis Responder-EMT. During the summers, he works as a Lifeguard Instructor at a waterpark in Tempe, AZ.
Sean began his education at ASU as a Materials Science and Engineering major. The summer before he began attending ASU, he also took an EMT class at a local community college. By his second semester at ASU, Sean realized that his passion was in medicine. Within one month he had switched his major to nursing and entered the early stages of developing SEMS. Sean has been both amazed and profoundly pleased to watch SEMS develop a life of its own. He most looks forward to the day when a new batch of leaders takes the reigns of SEMS and proves that the organization will become a permanent part of the ASU campus.

Steven Garrison is from Posen, IL (a suburb of Chicago). He is a freshman at Arizona State University, currently majoring in Genetics, Cell, and Developmental Biology with a pre-med track. Steven is a building coordinator in the Residence Hall Association, president of Active Minds at ASU, a member of AMSA, and a level 1 dancer on the ASU Hip Hop Coalition.
Originally wanting to pursue a degree in finance, Steven left his job as a bank teller to become an insurance collector in an emergency room. After working in the ER for over a year, he fell in love with the field of emergency medicine and decided to change his major to pre-med. Steven enrolled in an EMT-B course over this past summer. When he came to ASU, he wanted to put his EMT skills to use. Steven was thrilled to be elected to the Deputy Chief of Personnel position and be influential in this organization that will continue to serve for years after he graduates.
